Shift Your Mindset to Increase Your Chances of Success

Your mindset is a powerful state of consciousness. What you put into it is what you will get out of it. How you think of yourself will be reflected through your tone of voice, body language and the words you use. Think carefully about who you want to become. Then focus on telling yourself in a positive manner that you will become that person that you envision.
For the service industry, this is more important than some would believe. The service industry is about relationships in order to acquire accounts or contracts. And beyond that one account or contract, the idea is to keep that client and have them pay you multiple times over the years. So how you are perceived and the vibes that you give off will directly affect how long your clients stay with you.
Carol S. Dweck, author of the book Mindset, writes about two distinct mindsets, the growth mindset and the fixed mindset. The fixed mindset is one where you feel that you know all the skills you need to know and you must deal with the skills you have. In this state of mind, you will not acquire any new skills. The growth mindset is where you feel that you have a number of skills and you know that you will increase and improve your current skills over time. In other words, you will continue to learn and grow as long as you live.
How does this relate to business? In the service industry, it directly relates to how fast firms are able to adapt and evolve to fill new niches within their focused markets. It also may be a direct measure of how fast a firm adapts new technology to stay ahead of their competition and to aid as another way to stand out amongst their competition.
Think about your current state of mind. Do you feel positive or negative about yourself? How do you feel others view and perceive you? The same questions can be asked about a company. As you start to shift your mind, you will start to see more opportunities and to grow as both a person and a company.
