The only thing constant in life is change, though the irony is we all fear change to one degree or another. In fearing change, we fear life itself, or at least inhibit our exposure to living it. Many of us wish for a more fulfilled and prosperous life but for some, the fear of failure or a lack of confidence can prevent them from achieving their best. Even for those who do decide to change something in their life that makes them unhappy will often only talk about changing it, without taking any action. This can lead to a feeling of disempowerment and frustration. As humans we have cultivated fear as a form of survival; knowing to fear the sabre tooth tiger and run to safety.
Fifty years ago our lives were well defined; men went to work and spent their whole life working with one employer, women stayed at home, couples got married and the family unit stayed intact. Fifty years on and we have witnessed major changes within these parameters. People have numerous job changes and those jobs are not as guaranteed, more than fifty percent of marriages end in divorce leaving the family unit split. The workplace can be an unsupportive, even hostile place for a personal crisis. If we are to sample life to its fullest, we need to able to embrace change and learn to understand its concepts and our behaviours to it. Learning the techniques on how to accept and make changes in your life can give you a huge advantage in your personal and career future.
7 Tips to Achieving More:
Are you ready to change but unsure where to start? Try these tips and make a contract with yourself to see it through.
o Write down 3 things you want to change, be specific and give them a due date.
o Write a goal for each change you want and write it in the present tense. Ensure to be detailed in your description. How will you feel? How will it affect others you love? What will it give you? For example "It is November 23rd 2008 and I have got my fantastic new business marketing job which makes me feel worthy and respected"
o For each goal, write 10 reasons why you must achieve it.
o Then write 10 consequences of not achieving your goal.
o Read your goals aloud everyday and smile.
o Write down 5 different ways for you to reach each goal. Get creative and see it as a challenge rather than a problem.
o Set 3 small action steps you need to take every week/month on each goal. Build up a plan and write them down. Each step should take you closer to what you want, so plan the route and each time you achieve a step cross it off your list.Keep on track you will automatically achieve your goals.
Go for it and good luck on your journey.
